Elon Musk took to X on Sunday to claim two-time Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan “has lost his integrity” while debating Lupita Nyong’o’s speculated role in “The Odyssey,” Helen of Troy.
On Sunday morning, one X user claimed that if Nyong’o plays Helen of Troy, it is “an insult” to the Greek poet Homer, who wrote “The Odyssey” around 700 BCE, because he originally described the fictonal character as “fair skinned, blonde, and ‘the face that launched a thousand ships’ because she was so beautiful that men started a war over her.” Musk later commented on the post, “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity.”
Variety reported a Nyong’o and Nolan team-up back in November 2024, but it wasn’t until the following December that the project was revealed to be “The Odyssey.” Nyong’o’s role in the film has yet to be confirmed. Other cast members include Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie and Elliot Page.
The latest addition to “The Odyssey” cast is 10-time Grammy nominee Travis Scott. His role was revealed in a TV spot that aired during Fox’s broadcast of the NFL AFC Championship game. In the teaser, Scott stands on top of a table and demands the attention of a room full of soldiers, which includes Holland’s Telemachus and Benthal’s Menelaus.
Universal declined Variety’s request for comment on Scott’s casting.
“The Odyssey” is the first narrative feature shot entirely with Imax cameras. The technical feat was previously impossible because the Imax cameras were too noisy, making quiet, intimate scenes unshootable. yet, thanks to a new film casing called a “blimp,” the noise can be significantly reduced.
“The blimp system is a game-changer,” Nolan told Empire Magazine. “You can be shooting a foot from [an actor’s] face while they’re whispering and get usable sound. What that opens up are intimate moments of performance on the world’s most beautiful format.”

Reports of Bill Gates’ connections with Jeffrey Epstein grow more lurid with each dump of documents from the Department of Justice. The latest includes somewhat confusing emails that Epstein may have been drafting on behalf of someone named Boris, who worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The messages claim that Bill contracted an STD and wanted to “surreptitiously” give Melinda antibiotics. It also claims that Bill had “trysts” with married women and “Russian girls.”
“These claims are absolutely absurd and completely false. The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame.”
It’s unclear who the Boris referenced in the emails is, or if the messages were ever sent to anyone. Only Epstein is listed in the to and from fields.
Gates’ relationship with Epstein has become a major issue for the billionaire philanthropist. He initially downplayed his connections, but documents have suggested the two were closer than Gates admitted. He has repeatedly denied associating with Epstein outside of fundraising and philanthropic efforts and said their meetings were a “huge mistake.” but, Melinda Gates has stated that Bill’s association with Epstein played a role in her decision to file for divorce.

The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to trade guard Vit Krejci to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Duop Reath and two future second-round draft picks, sources informed ESPN on Sunday.
The Trail Blazers will send a 2027 second-round pick from Atlanta back to the Hawks, along with a 2030 second-round pick via the New York Knicks, as reported by sources.
Krejci is averaging nine points and 2.2 three-pointers per game with a shooting percentage of 42.3%, placing him among the top 20 in the NBA. His presence adds much-needed floor spacing to a Trail Blazers squad vying for a spot in the play-in tournament this season.
Krejci, who has spent four out of his five NBA seasons with Atlanta, is also hitting 44.6% of his catch-and-shoot three-pointers this season, ranking 16th among 179 qualifying players in the league (minimum 100 attempts), according to GeniusIQ.
Krejci has two years remaining on his contract after this season but will be eligible for an extension in the offseason.
Reath underwent surgery on his foot to end his season on Thursday.
Mehdi Mahmoudian, the co-writer of Jafar Panahi’s Oscar-nominated political drama “It Was Just An Accident,” was arrested in Tehran on Saturday after endorsing a statement denouncing the actions of Ali Khamenei, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Two of the other 17 co-singers were also arrested. Panahi, who was recently sentenced in absentia in Iran to one year in prison, was among the signatories. The activists’ statement condemns the Iranian government’s deadly campaign against civilian protestors. It read, in part, “The mass and systematic killing of citizens who bravely took to the streets to bring an end to an illegitimate regime constitutes an organized state crime against humanity. The use of live ammunition against civilians, the killing of tens of thousands, the arrest and persecution of tens of thousands more, the assault on the wounded, the obstruction of medical care, and the killing of injured protesters amount to nothing less than an assault on Iran’s national security and a betrayal of the country.”
Panahi, a seasoned filmmaker and political activist who emerged into the American mainstream as an influential voice after “It Was Just An Accident” won the Palme d’Or at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, released a statement honoring his co-writer.
“I met Mehdi Mahmoudian in prison,” Panahi said in a statement. “From the very first days, he stood out—not only because of his calm demeanor and kind conduct but also because of a rare sense of responsibility toward others. Whenever a new prisoner arrived, Mehdi would try to provide them with basic necessities and, more importantly, offer reassurance. He became a quiet pillar inside the prison—someone inmates of all beliefs and backgrounds trusted and confided in.”
He added, “Mehdi Mahmoudian is not just a human rights activist and a prisoner of conscience; he is a witness, a listener, and a rare moral presence—a presence whose absence is immediately felt, both inside prison walls and beyond them.”

I met Mehdi Mahmoudian in prison. From the very first days, he stood out—not only because of his calm demeanor and kind conduct but also because of a rare sense of responsibility toward others. Whenever a new prisoner arrived, Mehdi would try to provide them with basic necessities and, more importantly, offer reassurance. He became a quiet pillar inside the prison—someone inmates of all beliefs and backgrounds trusted and confided in.
We spent seven months behind bars together. A few months after his release, while I was working on the screenplay for It Was Just an Accident, I asked him to help refine the dialogue. His nine years of imprisonment had given him direct, lived knowledge of the judicial system and prison life. Also, his extensive fieldwork in human rights had made him a reliable and authoritative source for consultation.
I remember during the shooting of It Was Just an Accident, we filmed the thirteen-minute shot of tying the interrogator to a tree one night, from dusk to dawn, but it didn’t turn out right. The following night, I brought Mehdi to the set to help, drawing on his understanding of interrogators and the fine details we needed to get right. That night, with Mehdi’s help, we finally succeeded in capturing the shot.
Forty-eight hours before his arrest, we spoke on the phone and then exchanged a few messages. I sent him my last message at four in the morning. By noon the next day, there was no reply. I grew worried and contacted mutual friends; none of them had heard from him. A few hours later, BBC Persian officially announced that Mehdi Mahmoudian, along with Abdollah Momeni and Vida Rabbani, had been arrested.

Indonesia has followed Malaysia and the Philippines in lifting a ban on xAI’s chatbot Grok.
The Southeast Asian countries banned Grok after it was used to create a flood of nonconsensual, sexualized imagery on X (now a subsidiary of xAI), including images of real women and minors. In late December and January, Grok was used to create at least 1.8 million sexualized images of women, according to separate analyses by The New York Times and the Center for Countering Digital Hate.
In a statement, Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs said that it was lifting the ban after X sent a letter “outlining concrete steps for service improvements and the prevention of misuse” (translation via The New York Times).
Alexander Sabar, the ministry’s director general of digital space monitoring, said the ban is only being lifted “conditionally” and could be reinstated if “further violations are discovered.”
Malaysia and the Philippines lifted their bans on January 23.
Grok’s deepfakes have spurred criticism and investigations — but only a few outright bans — from governments around the world. In the United States, California Attorney General Rob Bonta said his office was investigating xAI and had sent a cease-and-desist letter ordering the company to take immediate action to end the production of these images.
xAI appears to have taken some steps to restrict Grok’s capabilities, including limiting its AI image generation feature to paying subscribers on X. CEO Elon Musk has insisted, “Anyone using Grok to make illegal content will suffer the same consequences as if they upload illegal content” and said he is “not aware of any naked underage images generated by Grok.”

Documents released by the Justice Department on Friday around the notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein include at least 16 emails between Musk and Epstein in 2012 and 2013, with Musk asking to visit Epstein’s Caribbean island and wondering about the “wildest party on your island.” Epstein pleaded guilty to procuring an underage girl for prostitution in 2008.
xAI, meanwhile, is reportedly in talks to merge with two of Musk’s other companies, SpaceX and Tesla, ahead of a SpaceX IPO.
