“Blood on Snow,” the upcoming crime thriller from Cary Joji Fukunaga (“No Time To Die,” “True Detective”) based on the bestselling novel by Jo Nesbø, has been acquired by Sky for the U.K.
The film, led by an ensemble cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, Aaron Taylor‑Johnson, Eva Green, Emma Laird and Ben Mendelsohn, will now premiere in the U.K. as a Sky Original.
Following the success of Sky’s previous acquisition of Nesbø adaptation “The Hanging Sun,” Sky is planning to bring this new adaption to U.K. cinemas in 2027.
Scripted by Nesbø in association with Ben Power, “Blood on Snow” is set in Oslo’s criminal underworld and follows Olav (Johnson), a trusted hitman and a cold, efficient killer. But beneath Olav’s ruthless exterior lies an unexpected intelligence and an unwavering moral code shaped by a complicated childhood, and when his handler Hoffman orders his own wife to be murdered, principles clash with loyalties. Instead of pulling the trigger, he hatches a scheme that makes Hoffman his next target and with nowhere safe to turn, Olav forms an uneasy alliance that places him at the heart of Oslo’s deadly gang war.
“We’re delighted to be working with an exciting filmmaker of Cary Joji Fukunaga’s calibre, as we continue to build a fresh and diverse offering of Original films,” said Sky’s head of original film Andrew Orr. “Nesbø’s writing is exceptional, and the strength of the cast’s performances make this a standout addition to our slate.”
Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer are producing the film under the Department M, in association with executive producers Hardy Son & Baker’s Tallulah Fairfax as well as Damiano Tucci, Sophia Banks & Tiziano Tucci.
