Starting March 2, FanDuel Sportsbook will discontinue accepting credit card deposits, mirroring a decision made by DraftKings Sportsbook last August.
In a statement, FanDuel indicated that this change has been planned for some time.
“In recent months, we have been assessing the payment options available to our customers and have decided to eliminate credit cards as a payment method for our Sportsbook, casino, and racing products in the United States,” the sportsbook stated. “This modification aims to enhance the overall deposit experience for our clients.”
A significant number of sports bettors prefer not to use credit cards due to the associated fees.
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts praised FanDuel for this move.
“Just last week, I raised the issue of sports betting companies and the scams involving credit card fees that Americans face while placing sports bets—often incurring a $10 junk fee for a $20 bet,” Warren shared on social media.
“I’m pleased to see FanDuel take steps to safeguard consumers from these unnecessary fees, following DraftKings’ lead. Other companies in the industry should do the same.”
Two prominent sportsbooks with operations across the country, BetMGM and Caesars, still accept credit cards.
also, on January 22, FanDuel launched a new initiative called “Play with a Plan” aimed at promoting responsible gambling. This program allows bettors to monitor their account activity, set spending limits, and receive deposit notifications.
