Mikaela Shiffrin will make her last appearance at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Wednesday in the slalom event.
The most accomplished Alpine skier in history, Shiffrin is the frontrunner in this race, having excelled in slalom. Remarkably, 71 of her record 108 World Cup victories have been achieved in slalom, making her the most successful skier across all disciplines. This season, she has triumphed in six out of seven events and has already secured her ninth slalom Crystal Globe. Nevertheless, Shiffrin has not secured a medal in her last eight Olympic appearances, providing her with an opportunity for redemption.
The U.S. men’s hockey team will kick off the knockout rounds with a quarterfinal clash against Sweden, who recently defeated Latvia 5-1 to progress. With a lineup brimming with NHL talent, U.S. winger Matthew Tkachuk referred to Sweden as “one of the powerhouses in the world,” setting the stage for a significant face-off.
A trio of American athletes will vie for medals in the men’s snowboard slopestyle final: Oliver Martin, Jake Canter, and Redmond Gerard. Martin achieved the best finish among Americans in the qualifying round, coming in sixth. Competing despite a broken arm, the 17-year-old narrowly missed a medal in the big air final, finishing in fourth place.
