Katseye has announced that member Manon Bannerman will be taking a temporary hiatus to “focus on her health and wellbeing.”
The group, which was recently nominated for best new artist at the Grammys, posted a statement saying that the members collectively discussed Bannerman’s hiatus and “fully support this decision.”
“After open and thoughtful conversations together, we are sharing that Manon will be taking a temporary hiatus from group activities to focus on her health and wellbeing,” reads the statement. “Katseye remains committed to showing up for one another and for the fans who mean everything to us. The group will continue scheduled activities during this time, and we look forward to being together again when the time is right.”
The global girl group, which also includes Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza and Yoonchae Jeung, climbed the ranks as K-pop trainees on the 2023 reality competition series “Dream Academy.” Katseye became breakout performers following the Netflix docuseries “Popstar Academy: Katseye” along with their aptly-titled first single “Debut.”
In their time together as a group, they’ve released a pair of EPs — 2024’s “SIS (Soft Is Strong)” and last year’s “Beautiful Chaos” — as well as a handful of singles. “Gnarly,” which was co-written by Alice Longyu Gao, became their first song to hit the Billboard Hot 100 last year. The sextet followed with “Gabriela,” “Gameboy” and “Internet Girl,” the latter of which debuted at No. 29 on the chart last month.
Katseye performed “Gnarly” at the Grammy Awards earlier this month. In addition to their best new artist nod, “Gabriela” was nominated for best pop duo/group performance.
