Top-ranked Canada bests U.S. for Olympic bronze in women’s curling

CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy — The top-ranked Canadian team triumphed over the United States to secure the bronze medal in women’s curling at the Milan Cortina Olympics on Saturday, following an upset loss to Sweden in the semifinals.

Rachel Homan’s squad claimed victory with a score of 10-7, preventing the American women from earning their first medal in this event.

The Canadians rallied from a challenging 1-3 start in the round-robin stage.

“I’m incredibly proud of our performance this week and our determination,” Homan expressed. “We never gave up until the very end, supporting one another, and when challenges arose, we came together and focused on what needed to be done next.”

Sweden is set to face Switzerland for the gold medal on Sunday.

In the men’s event, Canada’s highly debated team — which faced allegations of cheating during the round-robin phase — was scheduled to compete against the all-Scottish British squad for gold later on Saturday. Switzerland secured the bronze by defeating Norway on Friday.
