Max Scherzer’s daughter wrote Blue Jays letter wishing for father’s return

In December, Brooke, Max Scherzer’s 8-year-old daughter, penned a heartfelt letter to the Toronto Blue Jays, making a straightforward request: for her father to be re-signed with the team.

A few months later, her wish came true.

On Wednesday, a source informed ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez that Scherzer and the Blue Jays had finalized a one-year, $3 million agreement, ensuring that the three-time Cy Young winner remains in Toronto.

Scherzer, now 41, is set to continue with the Blue Jays after the team narrowly missed a trip to the World Series last season, a disappointment that Brooke acknowledged in her letter.

“Dear Blue Jays, I am sorry that you didn’t win the World Series. I hope that you win next time. I hope my dad is back on the team,” she wrote.

She elaborated on her desire for her father’s return: “My whole family loves spending time in Toronto with our dad. We cherished the aquarium, CN Tower, and, of course, the stadium. I am excited to come back next season.

“Love, Max Scherzer’s daughter.”

Scherzer may not be in his All-Star form anymore, but the veteran right-hander contributed to the Blue Jays’ efforts last season with a 5.19 ERA over 85 innings—almost doubling his workload from the previous year. The future Hall of Famer also proved valuable in the postseason, posting a 3.77 ERA and a 1-0 record in three starts.
