HBO Max Cop Drama Pilot 'American Blue' Adds Five to Cast

The HBO Max drama pilot “American Blue” has added five new cast members, Variety has learned.

Kelly Jenrette (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “All The Sinners Bleed”), Carlito Olivero (“Step Up: Highwater,” “East Los High”), Onye Eme-Akwari (“The Good Doctor,” “Outer Banks”), Jess Gabor (“Shameless,” “Christy”) and Eddie Kaye Thomas (“The Beauty,” “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) have all joined the pilot alongside previously announced lead Milo Ventimiglia.

The logline for the pilot states, “Native son Brian “Milk” Milkovich (Ventimiglia) returns to his hometown of Joliet, Illinois, to rescue a beleaguered police force while seeking redemption of his own.”

Full character descriptions for the new additions can be found below.

Jenrette is repped by Mitchell K. Stubbs & Associates, Robyn Bluestone Management and Goodman Genow. Olivero is repped by Luber Roklin Entertainment, Mavrick Artists Agency, and Brecheen, Feldman, Breimer, Silver, Thompson. Eme-Akwari is repped by Gray Talent Group and Kreativ Media Partners. Gabor is repped by Anonymous Content and Buchwald. Thomas is repped by Gersh Agency and Untitled Entertainment.

“American Blue” hails from writer and executive producer Jeremy Carver. Brian Udovich and Neil Reynolds also executive produce. David Ayer will direct the pilot and executive produce. Warner Bros. Television, where Carver is under an overall deal, is the studio.

“American Blue” is one of two drama pilots that HBO Max currently has in contention. The streamer is also currently prepping the family drama “How to Survive Without Me” with a cast that includes Ray Romano, Kaley Kuoco, and Joshua Jackson.

Character Descriptions
Jenrette will play Meg Jackson. Jackson is a seasoned Watch Commander fighting for respect for herself and her officers, from a command structure that seems to value neither.

Olivero will play Mike Ortiz. Ortiz is a hard-charging, hard-headed TAC officer who finds himself at the uncomfortable center of a department-wide investigation.

Eme-Akwari will play Darryl Andrews. Andrews is a Haitian-born patrol officer navigating the complicated personal and professional politics of his adopted country.

Gabor will play Suze Dombrowski. Dombrowski is a rookie patrol officer fighting off disillusionment in a job that is far more than she bargained for.

Thomas will play Sergeant Paul “PJ” Booker. PJ is the JPD’s desk sergeant and Watch Commander Meg Jackson’s loyal second in command. Smart-assed, competent and a bit of a know-it all, PJ runs his roost like mission control.
