At La Quinta Resort & Club, Curio Collection by Hilton, the arrival sets the tone long before check-in. Sun-baked tile driveway, bougainvillea spilling over whitewashed walls and panoramic views of the Santa Rosa Mountains all signal where you are: deep in the Coachella Valley, with the pace already starting to shift.
Open since 1926, the resort stretches across 45 acres in the town of La Quinta, located about 30 miles from Palm Springs. Long before Coachella Valley became a seasonal spectacle, the property drew a different kind of audience. Greta Garbo, Clark Gable and Shirley Temple were among the early regulars, part of a steady stream of Hollywood figures who treated the resort as a discreet desert escape.
That legacy continues to evolve of course — the property served as the primary filming location for “The Bachelorette” during Clare Crawley’s 2020 season. That hasn’t changed much. In its centennial year, the resort still works as both a destination and a place to step away from it.
The property is built in a Spanish Colonial style that reads more like a village than a single resort, with terracotta roofs, white stucco walls, shaded walkways, and courtyards that link a series of low-slung casita and villa clusters. Behind the scenes, the resort also runs a scaled sustainability program, with composting, water reuse, and energy-efficient operations integrated into daily service.

Altogether, there are 718 accommodations — 620 casitas and 98 one-, two- and three-bedroom villas — most opening onto private patios rather than interior corridors. Many include fireplaces, outdoor soaking tubs, full kitchens, and separate living and dining areas, depending on the layout. The resort is also notably pet-friendly, with dog beds and food bowls provided on request, along with designated walking paths that make it easier to bring pets into the overall rhythm of the stay.
The more lasting impression, though, is space and separation. Rooms feel intentionally placed apart, offering a level of privacy that holds even when the resort is full. At the same time, the Hilton-backed operation brings a level of consistency to the stay, helping smooth out the variables that can come with a property of this scale.
Pools are woven into that same rhythm. All 41 (yes, 41 pools) are distributed across the casita clusters, giving each area its own version of a private pool scene. The hotel’s main pool brings the most energy, complete with a swim-up bar and steady family activity. The adult-only pool offers a more secluded feel entirely. Cabanas are available throughout, and every pool is climate-controlled, which in the Coachella Valley heat feels less like a perk and more like part of the design.

Dining is intentionally spread across the La Quinta Resort & Club as well. Morgan’s in the Desert anchors the more refined evenings, Adobe Grill brings a livelier energy with a focus on tequila-forward dishes, and Twenty6 handles the everyday rhythm of casual dining. As part of the resort’s centennial, the restaurants will lean into its archive, revisiting legacy dishes and cocktails through a “Centennial Classics” menu that draws a direct line between the property’s early years and its current iteration.
Golf extends beyond the resort grounds through the adjacent PGA West complex, a destination in its own right and a regular stop on the PGA Tour as host of The American Express tournament each January. Its collection of five courses includes several ranked among the Top 100, led by the TPC Stadium Course designed by Pete Dye. Known for its precision and tournament pedigree, it draws serious players while remaining physically separate from the resort itself. A full spa, 21 tennis and pickleball courts, and a well-equipped fitness center round out the offering, balancing activity with downtime.

The resort’s location in La Quinta also places it within easy reach of the Coachella Valley’s largest cultural draw. During festival season, Coachella and Stagecoach take place just a short drive away to nearby Indio. The resort becomes a de facto base for attendees, with shuttle service offered during major festival weekends, and yet, still a quiet oasis away from festival chaos.
