The New York Giants are bringing on Dennard Wilson as their new defensive coordinator, sources told ESPN on Sunday.
plus, they are anticipated to hire Chris Horton, former special teams coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, for the same position on Coach John Harbaugh’s staff, a source confirmed.
Wilson, 43, who previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans for the last two seasons, has a link to Harbaugh, having worked under him as the Ravens’ defensive backs coach in 2023.
Wilson interviewed for the Giants’ defensive coordinator role following the 2023 season. though he was a top contender, he opted for the Titans instead. In his first season, he helmed a second-ranked defense in Tennessee, but the unit fell to 21st this past season.
Serious candidates for the Giants’ defensive coordinator position also included Broncos assistant head coach and defensive pass game coordinator Jim Leonhard, along with former Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, per multiple sources.
Wilson and Horton are the first coordinators appointed by Harbaugh, who recently accepted the role after 18 years in Baltimore. The Giants are eyeing Todd Monken for their offensive coordinator position; however, he is still in contention for the head-coaching position with the Cleveland Browns. Monken was the offensive coordinator under Harbaugh in Baltimore for the last three seasons.
though Harbaugh and New York’s request to interview Horton was initially denied, they were determined to be patient. At the time, Baltimore was in the process of selecting a head coach and appointed Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter last week.
