Brandon Aubrey seeking larger deal from Cowboys, sources say

INDIANAPOLIS — The Dallas Cowboys and Brandon Aubrey’s agent have reached a consensus that he should be the NFL’s highest-paid kicker. but, the difference lies in the contract amount.

The Cowboys’ offer for Aubrey exceeds the current highest average of $6.4 million per season held by Kansas City’s Harrison Butker, sources informed ESPN. by contrast, Aubrey’s agent, Todd France, is seeking a contract closer to $10 million per year, as per the sources.

Negotiations commenced last season but have yet to make significant headway.

“It’s been a journey,” stated Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones on Monday, refraining from divulging details of the discussions, “but we haven’t been able to reach an agreement, so it hasn’t been finalized. but, we’d love to make it happen.”

Aubrey is poised to become a restricted free agent. The Cowboys are expected to apply the second-round tender on him at a cost near $5.8 million. Having entered the league as an undrafted free agent, if the Cowboys opt for the right-of-first-refusal tender, they would not receive any compensation if they choose not to match an offer from another team.

The only restricted free agent to depart from a team for a second-round pick was Wes Welker, who was traded to the New England Patriots by the Miami Dolphins for second- and seventh-round picks in 2007.

Though placing the restricted free agent tender would mean Aubrey is under contract only for 2026, the Cowboys could franchise tag him in 2027, effectively keeping him away from free agency.

Aubrey, who will turn 31 next month, has been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons. He has successfully made six field goals from 60 yards or more, the highest total in NFL history. Last season, he converted 11 out of 17 attempts from 50 yards and beyond.

Throughout his career, Aubrey boasts a record of 112 successful attempts out of 127, with a personal best of 65 yards. In 2025, he achieved 36 successful kicks out of 42 attempts, with the six misses occurring from 51 yards or further.
