Emily Deschanel to Star in NBC Pilot From Dean Georgaris, John Fox

Emily Deschanel is set for the lead role in NBC‘s untitled drama pilot from Dean Georgaris and John Fox.

The pilot was originally picked up at NBC in January. It is inspired by the real-life work of internationally renowned expert profiler and author Dr. Ann Burgess.

The logline for the pilot states, “Professor Georgia Ryan (Deschanel) is a trailblazing psychologist who challenges the field of criminology by shifting the investigative focus to the victim rather than just the perpetrator in order to uncover the crucial clues that more traditional methods leave behind. Alongside her team, this pioneering expert consults with the FBI to solve the most baffling and elusive cases.”

With the casting, there is a (sort of) “Bones” reunion happening at NBC. Deschanel’s former co-star David Boreanaz was recently set as the lead for the pilot of NBC’s reboot of “The Rockford Files.” Should Deschanel’s pilot go to series, it would also mark the second time she has starred in a broadcast show as an outside-the-box criminal investigator, following her lead role as forensic anthropologist Temperance “Bones” Brennan in “Bones.”

Deschanel starred in “Bones” for 12 seasons and nearly 250 episodes. She was also a producer on the show and directed the premiere of the final season in her directorial debut. Deschanel’s other TV credits include “Animal Kingdom” at TNT, “The Rookie” at ABC, and “Devil in Ohio” for Netflix. She has also been in films such as “ReEntry” and “Big Boys.”

She is repped by Gersh, Principal Entertainment LA, and Hansen Jacobsen Teller.

Georgaris and Fox are writers and executive producers on the pilot, with John Davis executive producing via Davis Entertainment. Burgess is a consulting producer, as is Steve Constantine. Universal Television will produce.
