Hornets’ LaMelo Ball feels ‘blessed’ that he wasn’t hurt in car crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — LaMelo Ball, point guard for the Charlotte Hornets, recorded 11 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in a 105-101 defeat against the Houston Rockets on Thursday night, just a day after being involved in a two-car accident in Charlotte.

“Thankfully, everyone is okay, so we’re counting our blessings,” Ball remarked about the incident after the game. “God is great.”

Ball was navigating an intersection when his custom camouflage Hummer collided with another vehicle on Wednesday, according to footage acquired by WSOC-TV in Charlotte. The station later shared video of Ball, dressed in an aqua Hornets hoodie, exiting his truck and entering a black Lamborghini before being driven away.

Authorities were present at the scene.

When asked why he departed the scene, Ball responded, “Nah, you gotta check in on that.”

A police report has yet to be released.

No information is available regarding the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident; however, video footage showed an individual calmly exiting their car and walking towards Ball’s truck after the crash.

Regarding the other person, Ball stated, “I saw her get straight out of the car.”

Video footage indicated that the left front tire of Ball’s truck was missing.

“I’m alive and blessed,” Ball expressed. “God is great, as I mentioned.”

Ball joins a list of professional athletes who have been involved in car accidents in Charlotte.

Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton sustained a fractured back in a 2014 accident when he flipped his pickup truck near Bank of America Stadium, located less than a mile from where Ball’s incident took place.

plus, in 2024, the Panthers’ current backup quarterback, Andy Dalton, injured his thumb in a two-car accident in Charlotte.

Tragically, former Hornets guard Bobby Phills lost his life in a car crash at the age of 30 following a practice session on January 12, 2000.
