Warner Bros.’ “Wuthering Heights” debuted at No. 1 at the U.K. and Ireland box office, earning £7.6 million ($10.4 million) on its opening weekend, according to Comscore.
The Emerald Fennell film, starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, is also No. 1 at the global box office.
Sony scored a strong opening frame with two titles in the top three. “GOAT” launched at No. 2 with $4.8 million, while “Crime 101” opened in third place with $1.9 million.
Last weekend’s chart-topper, Disney’s “Send Help,” moved to No. 4 in its second frame, adding $1.1 million for a cumulative $22.6 million. At No. 5, Lionsgate U.K.’s “The Housemaid” continued its long run with $754,000, lifting its total to $42.3 million.
The middle of the chart was dominated by holdovers. Disney’s “Zootopia 2” placed sixth with $610,000 for $46.2 million, while Universal’s “Hamnet” ranked seventh with $480,000, reaching $23.8 million.
Further down, Kazoo Films’ newcomer “Stitch Head” opened eighth with $360,000, followed by Black Bear’s “Whistle” in ninth with $317,000. Disney’s long-running hit “Avatar: Fire and Ash” rounded out the top 10 with $267,000, bringing its total to $57.5 million.
Among upcoming releases, Trafalgar Releasing is rolling out the concert film “Chase Atlantic: Lost in Heaven” on Feb. 18, followed by “Paul McCartney: Man on the Run.”
Universal debuts “The Moment,” starring Charli xcx alongside Alexander Skarsgård and Rosanna Arquette, across 100 locations. Trinity Filmed Entertainment fields two Asian titles timed for the Lunar New Year celebrations: Zhang Yimou’s thriller “Scare Out,” starring Jackson Yee and Zhu Yilong, and Hong Kong-set drama “Night King,” featuring Dayo Wong and Sammi Cheng.
Also in the frame are Dogwoof’s documentary “Fukushima,” released coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the 2011 disaster, Lionsgate U.K.’s prison drama “Wasteman,” Studiocanal’s body horror “Cold Storage,” and Mubi’s Oscar and BAFTA nominated political drama “The Secret Agent,” directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and starring Wagner Moura. Picturehouse Entertainment launches Mary Bronstein’s “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” led by Rose Byrne and Conan O’Brien, while Park Circus reissues “A Knight’s Tale” for its 25th anniversary in a 4K restoration.
Releases also include Miracle/Bollywood Films’ animation “Running Man Revengers” and Sovereign’s animal shelter documentary “Collective Monologue.” The usual bevy of releases from India include Bakrania Media’s Bollywood romance “Do Deewane Seher Mein,” and Dreamz Entertainment’s Telugu-language fantasy adventure “Swayambhu” and Malayalam-language drama “Spa.”
Anime Ltd. brings “Lupin the IIIrd the Movie: The Immortal Bloodline” to cinemas at the weekend.
