“I don’t need to be talked down too, or lectured about ethical basketball or which teams have sophisticated offenses from a 20-year-old French kid who’s never won anything,” Wright said.

Continuing his remarks, Wright offered a brief olive branch by acknowledging Wembanyama’s immense potential. However, he still took a jab, suggesting the young big man should hold off on dispensing his “Shaolin Monk” wisdom for now.

“Wemby has shown more than flashes of greatness,” Wright said. “He obviously has seemingly limitless potential, but I’d love to see the guy accomplish literally anything before he is telling which teams have a sophisticated offense … He is spouting wisdom like the Shaolin monks he’s spent time with, the thing is, those guys are sixty, that’s all.”

Wright fired back at Wembanyama for his comments directed at the OKC Thunder, after the Spurs forward described San Antonio’s style of play as “ethical” following their NBA Cup semifinal win.

“I’m just glad to be part of something that’s growing to be so beautiful, pure and ethical basketball,” Wembanyama said.

Wembanyama’s remark was widely interpreted as a jab at the Thunder’s reliance on free throws, a suggestion that quickly sparked backlash across the NBA community.

Former NBA champion criticizes Victor Wembanyama over “ethical” remarks aimed at the OKC Thunder

Victor Wembanyama has come underfire for his “ethical” comments aimed at the OKC Thunder, following his team’s 111-109 win in the NBA Cup Semi-finals.

Former NBA champion Udonis Haslem joined many in criticizing the Spurs star for his comments during a segment of the NBA on Prime studio show on Friday.

“You can’t whine your way, you can’t cry your way, you can’t beg your way to a championship,” Haslem said, “That’s not happening, I’m not sure if he’s talking about OKC, but I wanna hear none of that when it comes to OKC. Stop it!”

Wembanyama’s comments came after he helped the Spurs knock out the Thunder in the NBA Cup, ending their 15-game winning streak.
