Nicole Kidman Speaks Out on Keith Urban Divorce: 'Grateful for Family'

Nicole Kidman got honest about her turbulent 2025, when the prolific actress grabbed global headlines by filing for divorce from country star Keith Urban after a 19-year marriage.

In a roving cover story for Variety, the Oscar legend admitted that the deeply personal issue forced her into a kind of retreat.

“Last year, I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell,” said the star of “Scarpetta” which releases Wednesday on Prime Video.

Documents were filed in late September last year. The couple share two daughters, 17-year-old Sunday and 15-year-old faith. Kidman said her priority is keeping her family unit together, as all parties move toward positivity.

“I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good. What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that. Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect,” she said. “I’m staying in a place of, “We are a family,” and that’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”

Urban and Kidman got married in June 2006 after meeting at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles, an event promoting Australia. They became one of Hollywood’s most visible power couples for decades, with Urban often attending Kidman’s various industry events and Kidman attending Urban’s concerts and music awards ceremonies .

In the first months of their marriage, Kidman notably staged an intervention for Urban amid his addiction struggles. Urban entered rehab and would credit Kidman as being integral to his rehabilitation and sobriety. When Kidman was awarded the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024, Urban recounted in his tribute speech how much of a positive influence she was on his life when they met.

Kidman is gearing up for a banner 2026, with releases of “Scarpetta,” the long-awaited sequel to “Practical Magic,” a supporting role in Osgood Perkins’ “Young People” and the third season of Taylor Sheridan’s “Lioness.”
