As the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots prepare for football’s grand event, another team is ready to capture the attention during Puppy Bowl XXII.
On Team Ruff, Button—a Boston terrier-beagle from Nickel City Canine Rescue in Buffalo, New York—brings a real connection to the NFL. She received training from Khalil Shakir at Highmark Stadium before hitting the Puppy Bowl field. Alongside her are Barker Playfield, a tribute to quarterback Baker Mayfield, and Devon-tails Smith, inspired by receiver DeVonta Smith.
Team Fluff responds with its own impressive lineup. Benito, a mix of Siberian husky and Chihuahua, is named after halftime entertainment Bad Bunny, adding some Super Bowl LX flair to the field. Josh Howlin’—a clever take on Josh Allen—is noted as a born leader ready for critical moments, while Mutt Snifford (a nod to Matthew Stafford) and Nix (after Bo Nix) complete the quarterbacks-heavy group.
Since its inception in 2005, Puppy Bowl has played a vital role in raising awareness for shelters and rescue organizations across the country, with many participating pups up for adoption. although the playful antics and end zone celebrations, the competition is fierce: pups vie for the Lombarky Trophy and the title of “Most Pupular,” emphasizing the importance of giving rescue dogs, regardless of age, a loving home.
This year, the spotlight will also shine on senior canines with a special halftime matchup between Team Oldies and Team Goldies.
