Sixers deal Jared McCain to Thunder for four draft picks

The Philadelphia 76ers have traded guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick from the Rockets and three second-round picks, the teams confirmed on Wednesday.

One of the second-round picks going to the 76ers is for 2027 (the most favorable of picks from OKC/Houston/Indiana/Miami), and the other two are for 2028 (from OKC and Milwaukee), as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

McCain, selected 16th overall in the 2024 draft, joins the defending NBA champions after averaging 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 38.5% in 16.8 minutes per game with the Sixers this season.

He made his season debut on Nov. 4, having previously suffered a torn ligament in his right (shooting) thumb during a workout just before the Sixers’ season-opening media day. At 21 years old, McCain missed a significant portion of his rookie season due to season-ending surgery for a torn meniscus in December 2024.

This trade enables the 76ers to gather assets, alleviate congestion in their guard position, and potentially bring Quentin Grimes back in free agency. It also provides an opportunity to convert two-way player Dominick Barlow.

The trade follows Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander sustaining an abdominal strain during Tuesday’s matchup against the Orlando Magic. He will be reevaluated after the All-Star break.

then, the Thunder traded Ousmane Dieng and a 2029 second-round pick (most favorable of picks from Atlanta/Miami) to the Charlotte Hornets for Mason Plumlee. Dieng was later sent by the Hornets to the Bulls in another deal.
