Source: Kyler Murray, Cardinals haven’t talked, rebutting GM

INDIANAPOLIS — Arizona Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort mentioned that he had discussions with quarterback Kyler Murray about how the previous season went, but a source informed ESPN that they haven’t spoken since the season concluded.

At the NFL combine on Tuesday, when asked if he had met with Murray to discuss last season and his future aspirations, Ossenfort confirmed that they had.

“Yeah, I’ve always maintained a good line of communication with Kyler,” Ossenfort stated. “I think [last season] didn’t meet Kyler’s expectations. It fell short for all of us as a team.”

“When you experience a season like we did, there’s a significant opportunity for improvement, and we need to find ways to enhance performance, not just at that position, but across the board. That’s our main focus moving forward.”

A source later challenged Ossenfort’s assertion.

Murray participated in only five games last season due to a foot injury sustained in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans. He was placed on injured reserve in early November, and when he became eligible to return in December, former coach Jonathan Gannon stated that Murray wouldn’t be playing for the remainder of the season.

Following Murray’s injuries, speculation about his future with the team surfaced.

In about three weeks, the Cardinals must decide whether Murray will remain their quarterback for the 2026 season. If he is on the active roster by the fifth day of the league year, he would earn a guaranteed roster bonus of $19.5 million for 2027.

Ossenfort indicated on Tuesday that discussions regarding Murray’s future happen “daily.”

He also emphasized that “all options remain on the table” concerning Murray, a view he initially shared during the Cardinals’ end-of-season press conference in January. Ossenfort noted that both Murray and fellow quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Kedon Slovis are under contract for 2026.

“We are committed to exploring every avenue for improvement and will continue our process in that regard,” Ossenfort stated on Tuesday.
