‘We Need to Get People Mad About It’

'We Need to Get People Mad About It'

Zazie Beetz spoke out against the proliferation of AI at the Berlin Film Festival press conference for Gore Verbinski’s new film “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die,” which tackles the hot topic with humor.

The sci-fi adventure, which premieres on Friday night as a Berlinale Special Gala, follows a “man from the future” (Sam Rockwell) who recruits people in a L.A. diner to help him save the world from artificial intelligence. Alongside Beetz and Rockwell, it stars a strong ensemble cast including Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Asim Chaudhry and Juno Temple.

The cast was of course asked about AI during the presser, with Beetz delivering a clear and honest takedown. “I just feel very, very strongly about AI and all of the damage I think that it is doing to the social fabric of our society and our interpersonal relationships,” she said. “I think that we need to rally the troops and get people mad about it and do something.”

Verbinksi also had many thoughts on AI, saying: “This thing’s coming, and those who live in denial, those who live in fear and the rest of us are going to have to surf this mad tsunami. I think navigating what’s coming is going to be really tough.”

AI has been an increasingly hot topic in the entertainment industry, especially with the advent of “AI actors” like Tilly Norwood. When the avatar was revealed back in September, it provoked outrage in the industry, with SAG-AFTRA slamming her and plenty of stars speaking out including Emily Blunt, Chris Pratt, Melissa Barrera, Lukas Gage, Whoopi Goldberg and more.

“Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die” premiered in September at Fantastic Fest and is having its European premiere at Berlin.
