CNN, Variety Expand Strategic Content Partnership

Timothée Chalamet Faces Backlash From Ballet and Opera Communities

Variety and CNN are back in business for awards season.

After producing Actors on Actors and a town hall with Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey, the two legacy brands have unveiled an expanded content partnership. Together, the brands will develop, produce and distribute premium content throughout awards season.

“This partnership allows us to expand how we serve CNN audiences, bringing them closer to the conversations and the artists defining entertainment today,” said Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent, CNN Originals and creative development for CNN Worldwide, in a statement. “Together with Variety, we’re building on a model that delivers dynamic and high-impact programming, along with the kind of cultural moments that resonate far beyond the screen, for our subscribers.”

“I’m delighted that Variety and CNN will be partnering on more longform projects together, spotlighting some of the biggest stars in the entertainment industry,” said Ramin Setoodeh, co-president and co-editor-in-chief of Variety, in a statement. “Through this new collaboration, we will be producing definitive, conversation-leading coverage. From the Emmys to the Golden Globes to the Oscars, CNN subscribers and Variety readers will have a front-row seats for what promises to be a thrilling awards season.”

The growing alliance follows a strong year of collaboration between CNN and Variety. Last week, “Variety and CNN Actors on Actors” received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Arts and Popular Culture Program, recognizing the first season of the franchise, which premiered exclusively for CNN’s streaming subscribers.

The partnership builds on a growing slate of content, including “CNN & Variety Red Carpet Live” at this year’s 98th Academy Awards, “A CNN & Variety Town Hall Event: Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey,” and the past two seasons of the Emmy Award-winning “Variety & CNN Actors on Actors” franchise. These programs are available to stream now via cnn.com/watch or on the CNN app for CNN’s streaming subscribers.
